With a Home Business or any business, the most important thing to have is good advertising.  The need to get the word out about you and your business or company is essential.  Advertising will take up a lot of your time and money too, if you're not careful.  Networking with others, is probably one of the most beneficial ways to advertise.  Getting the word out with others who have the same goals as you, is important...making contacts, meeting people, 'getting the word out' about your businesses and forming relationships that are a benefit to everyone involved.  Networking, most times, is free or costs little, compared to other advertising venues. 

Joining some of the many groups on Yahoo, MSN or some of the others, is a great place to start making yourself  and what you do known to others.  Remember, it's a two-way street, if you want people to know you, get to know them as well.  Something you always need to keep in mind is 'customer service'. You never know how an indiscretion may affect you and your goals later on. Prompt response via email, phone or snail mail is important if you want people to keep people doing business with you, and to recommend you to others.  Speedy shipment on items ordered is essential and let people know what the status is on the item(s) they ordered.  This will help you  make a good impression on everyone who does business with you, and probably get you some good customers and recommendations. 

Online Parties is another way to get yourself known. By participating with others when they have a party, they are more likely to attend a party that you have. No one likes to feel snubbed, cheated or ignored, so be mindful of others, and they'll be mindful of you.

If you have a website, link exchanges are great!  The cost to do is nothing, but the benefits may be substantial.  When you join some of the groups to network, let people know you would like to exchange links with them.  You will probably get a good response. Everyone likes to advertise! 

Filler paks and business card exchanges are also a good way to get more exposure.  Do a search for groups that do these exchanges and join a few.  Network groups also make up filler paks, let people know of your interest and maybe get something started.

There are many Free site submission programs you could join and some reasonably priced programs you can find with minimal searching.  Everything helps.  Don't forget to hand out your business card to three people everyday (more if possible).  This is a good habit to get into.  There are a lot of Message boards  and Forums online, also good places to let people know about you. Bulletin Boards are in many stores and super-markets, put an ad or your business card on them.  Be creative, just make sure you follow the rules of whatever groups or organizations you join.  Don't forget to check out MySpace.com for Networking & other groups.
